Skyscrapers, New York

29 07 2010

Manhattan Island has had skyscrapers for near enough 100 years. Today, these buildings are everywhere. I wanted to capture the imposing nature of man’s achievement.

Bull ring, Birmingham, 2004

Birmingham, England isn’t known for its aesthetic appeal but the revamped shopping centre – The Bull ring – makes for an excellent abstract black and white photo.

Newcastle, England, 2009

Newcastle is a surprising city – at least to me – in that it has so much architectural beauty. The redevelopment of the waterfront is stunning. I took a number of shots of the centre at night. This was one of them

New York, New York – Manhattan, The Empire State Building and Times Square

18 08 2009

In New York, I stayed on Manhattan island, somewhere between Central Park and Times Square. I could take pictures in this city forever. For now I will share 5.

I think this shot was taken from Brooklyn Bridge looking back up the island.

Merrion Square, Dublin

Taken in 2007. I love the Georgian architecture of Merrion Square, Dublin. Oscar Wilde once lived here and the 3 story town houses look as good today as they did 200 years ago. I wanted to showcase the brightly coloured painted doors – something that is not possible when shooting entirely in B&W. This shot has proved quite popular.
