The statue of libery was  gift to the people of America from the people of France. The statue is made of copper and this explains the green appearance. As the copper oxidises over time, it turns green.

Forth Rail Bridge – Black and White

Things like this continue to fascinate me. Imagining the amount of people that would have worked on a project of this size, the architect’s vision and the cruel conditions of the Victorian era make the Forth Rail Bridge a magnificent testament to man’s achievements. The forth rail bridge was designed by Sir John Fowler and Sir Benjamin Baker. It took 7 years to build and claimed the lives of 98 workers. It was finished in 1890.

Probably considered by most people as France’s finest example of Gothic architecture, Notre Dame cathedral sits on the its own island (ile de notre dame) in the centre of Paris. The cathedral was made more famous by Victor Hugo’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Haydarpasa Station

Istanbul, Turkey – where East meets west. Over the years, this ancient city has been home to the Roman Empire and the Byzantine Empire.  On the Eastern side of the Bosphorous is this train station. Looking at the destinations board it was possible to take a train from Istanbul to Baghdad!

Traffic Light Shot New York

In New York, 2009. This image is a bit of a cliche but I like it – particularly for the backdrop of 1930s faded adverts on the old building gable end.  I think this shot was taken around 7th Avenue and 42nd Street – not far from Times Square.
