London in Black and White

In the financial heartland of the city of London, you find a number of interesting buildings. The Lloyds building and the Swiss Re – The Gherkin – are practically side by side. I am still undecided as to whether the Lloyds building is beautiful or plain ugly. I suppose this is the genius of the design.

Dome of St. Paul’s Cathedral, London and Henry Moore

2 04 2008
St Paul's Cathedral

Christopher Wren designed the magnificent St Paul’s Cathedral which was completed on his 76th birthday in 1708.  The famous dome was the third design submitted by Wren and is an example of late renaissance style architecture. If it were not for the great fire of London in 1666, Wren my not have had his chance to design one of Britain’s greatest buildings.

Interestingly, many famous people have memorials inside St. Paul’s. Henry Moore is one such artist. I took this shot of one of Moore’s pieces in a sculpture park somewhere near the M1 in about 2003. The park has a number of fascinating sculpures by Moore and others.

This print is off to America today. I took this shot in London in the Summer. I think I was around the City . Most orders seem to come from the USA. Not that I am complaining, just an observation really. More shots like this can be found at www.picturesforwalls.com

Received a nice comment yesterday that I thought I would share here.

 Mike,

As a student of photography I must commend you on your mastery of the art.  It’s not often that I find an artist whose work makes me sit back and take a second look, but your images are phenomenal, and I must say that I am jealous of your worldy travels.

I just had to say that you are an amazing artist, and I will be looking forward to purchasing some of your prints as time and money allow.

I hope you are doing well and that you are able to continue your pursuit of wonderful photography.

Thank you for giving me so many beautiful things to look at with envy.

Sincerely,

Danielle Goforth
