How to open a gallery and display, sell and market your pictures
At www.picturesforwalls.com we are keen to help photographers sell their work. Why? The site was set up by a photographer who wanted to
harness the power of the internet to bring his work to a global audience. Having over four years of experience in doing this, we understand the difficulties photographers face in
establishing a web prescence. After all, most photographers are artists and not web designers! Further, allowing photographers to use www.picturesforwalls.com is mutually beneficial for both parties.
The more photographers on www.picturesforwalls.com, the more exposure for the site. The more exposure, the more sales.
What do I need to upload my images?
You will need your images saved at 600 x 400 (or therabouts) jpeg format no larger than 90KB in size and a thumbnail of the same image at
200 x 120 (or thereabouts) jpeg format no larger than 11KB. The name of your images should not contain spaces. That's it!
How do I upload images?
The online uploader will allow you to exhibit your images on www.picturesforwalls.com. Using this uploader, you are entitled to 3 galleries in one portfolio. Each gallery can hold 30 images.
This means that it is possible to display, market and sell 90 images at www.picturesforwalls.com for free!
The online uploader will provide you with password and login details. Once registered, you may update your images as often as you like, changing
your descriptions, selling prices, gallery photos, captions! It is very simple to use and gives you, the photographer, full control.

What will it cost me? Are there any charges for using www.picturesforwalls.com?
The short answer is no. We make our money on the commission from sales of your prints. The commission structure is set out below

OK, I have opened a gallery and uploaded my images, what do I do next?
You will need to send us high resolution copies of your images. The address is:-

Once we have your high resolution files, when an order comes in, we can print and send out the image.
How will I know when I have made a sale?
As soon as we receive a sale and have sent off the order, you are contacted by us. We pay you the money owed to you via paypal there and then.
Who will legally own my prints?:-
In terms of ownership of the print, the photographer i.e. you will retain all ownership rights. www.picturesforwalls.com will not use any submitted prints for any purposes other than the website itself. If at any time you wish to remove certain prints, you are fully able to do this using the online gallery editor.
If any approach is made by a third party for permission to use the print for other circumstances, we would immediately pass on this information to the photographer. This has happened in the past with advertising. In such cases, the photographer is informed and a fair compromise reached.
It is probably worth adding that the idea of www.picturesforwalls.com is really to sell a wide range of prints and artwork to homes and businesses. The more diverse material we have, the more attractive the site becomes and the more we sell.
This in effect, means the development of the site is mutually beneficial for both participating photographers and us.
Who determines the price of my work? Who determines the description of my work?
You determine the price and description of all your photography. Once you have logged into your portfolio, you can change descriptions, titles, add and delete images. You retain control.
How long before my work appears on the main site?
After opening a portfolio, we need to check it to ensure that the quality is right for the site. This usually takes about 24-48 hours.
In the mean time, this gives you opportunity to experiment with the members' area, uploading more images, changing descriptions and pricing.
If you do not want to go ahead and participate on www.picturesforwalls.com, simply email us and we will remove your portfolio.
Can you give me an example?
Say you upload an image and price an A4 print at £40. A customer comes on the site and purchases the image online. The customer pays www.picturesforwalls.com £40. www.picturesforwalls.com send the print to the customer and then
pay a fee to you the photographer, minus commission and printing fee. In this case, commission would be £12 and printing fee would be £2.50.
In total this would come to £14.50 leaving you, the photographer with £25.50. We pay out fees on a monthly basis using paypal. Therefore, you must set up a paypal account to receive money.
